Final Post

I really enjoyed this program, and would recomend others do it. Initially I thought it was quite difficult but once you are aware of the basics it is actually really easy, and fun! The things I learnt proboble wont help me directly in my role, but provided me with some usefull tools to use should I work/fill in in another department. The go animate exercise was probably the most fun, however the author and book sites and activities were probably the most usefull. I would liek to thank the admin team who have been commenting on my blog, and helping me through each exercise. Thanks!!!

Social Sites

I looked at dig and reddit, and choose dig to sign up with. I though it was a much better designed website, and the information wasn't too overloaded. Allthough it did have advertising, where as reddit did not, it was still much easier to navigate and find discussions of interest. There were a number of discussions that I comenented on- some of my fav's were Top lookalikes for sports and celebrities' where people posted pics of sports stars who looked like celebrities. I also looked at one abou the Italian Soccer team all having the same last name, De Feo. It seems like there are actually some interesting discussions and quite a communal vibe to this site, which I think is lacking in a number of other socail sites.

Go Animate

I can see how the go Animate site could be a lot of fun and an excellent procrastiation tool. I really liked thepre set characters and scenes they had, but thought it was great that you could upload your own. It did take quite a while to make my animation though, so I had to rush through and didn't have time to get to creative, but some of the others I looked at were great.
The library ones were also good, and i can see how it could be a usefull learning tool for kids learning how librarys works etc, or a bit of fun for everyone really.

Circ Christmas Crew

Animoto

I can see how this site would be an excellent procrastination tool. Its fun, and easy, and much quicker then making your own animation video (which is actually just a slideshow..of sorts... with music....). I'm not sure though how usefull this tool would be to our library. It could be incorporated into some of the photography clasees, or online/web training courses we offer, and i imagine it could be something that would be popular with teenagers, who may want to post things on their clogs or social networking sites. The Animoto sight is very userfriendly, and anyone who can use a computer can do it.

Bookjetty

The best thing about Bookjetty is that you can search over 300 library catalogues., which i can imagine would be helpfull when trying to track down an item, and reserving it via bookjetty is great, allthough I'm not sure how that works. I did find this weeks exercises usefull, not something I would use myself but something I could recomend to patrons.

The Book Report Network

I liked 'The Book Reporter Netowrk' the best out of all the author directories I looked at. The site was by far the easiest to navigate, and had a number of other directories linked. It seemed like it might not have been as comprehensive as some of the others, though I still prefer it because of the layout.

Litlovers..

I decided to do Geraldines Brooks' 'People of the Book' as it is the most recent novel I have read, however I was unable to find it on the litlovers site, so decided to choose one of her earlier works, 'March'. The Litguide containted a summary of the book, and literary awards it had won, notes on the author, a number of reviews by newspapers and journals, as well as some discussion questions which raised issues that can be applied to all of her books.

I also completed the LitCourse 3, How to read: Finding meaning. I can see how this would be helpful, for high school or first year university students as it provides clear and concise info. However I am not sure if it would be of interest to a bookclub.

Week two- Geneology

Am finally starting to get a hang of this blog stuff....
I can see how the geneology websites would be helpfull for library patrons. probably not something I would not need to recomend that much, in my particular department but usefull to know about. I did find the license to play instructions a bit confusing this week though, but my team mates showed me how to do it =)

I feel a little dumb...

Turns out I am not as tech savy as I thought I was. I thought this would be a breeze, but I have allready made a few errors. But maybe I am just having a bad day...

I am looking forward to seeing the other people in my teams blogs, as I think they will be much more creative and exciting than mine!
Back to work...for now...
